One of the reasons why mental health issues are so prevalent in society today has much to do with the lack of positive voices to help combat the unfortunate trend. If you can remember in the Book of Genesis (in the Bible), God spoke things into existence. He said, Let there be light, then the light came. God then said Let there be firmament in the midst of the waters, and it was so. My point is how powerful it is to just speak and see change. I believe that when we walk and talk with our Lord, we have that same power. There is literally life and death in the power of the tongue.
So many of our younger generation are experiencing mental health issues, but they are not willing to come forward due to belief in mental health myths. We have been taught and we have taught our children to just be "alright". Just being "alright" can not happen without help. Help can not come if help does not know to come. We have to begin to speak up about our own mental health struggles, in order to encourage the youth and others to speak about their struggles. All must be done with a firm voice and an humble heart. Speaking up about mental health issues aids in decreasing the power of mental health issues and increases knowledge on how to combat them. Solutions can be found for certain mental conditions by talking and strategizing against them.
Unfortunately, society places any kind of reference to mental health in a category of being "crazy". In fact, many professionals have sought help for mental crisis, from anxiety to PTSD, but decided to continue in their lives. Just because you may obtain a diagnosis does not mean you are doomed to be unsuccessful in life. It simply means you may need to work harder to overcome the mental crisis. There are others who are suffering who needs your voice to help them overcome. Sound the alarm concerning mental health. Become an active part of the fight against the prevalence of mental health issues. Be the change needed to change your community!
